Launch a boat, fish from the dock, swim off their sandy beach….

Curlew Lake State Park, located ten miles north of Republic, Washington (in Ferry County), offers visitors a lines-free boat launch and choice of 82 campsites dotted across the park’s 127 acres of uncrowded, grass-covered hills. Surrounded on three sides by the peaks and valleys of the Colville and Okanogan National Forests, the park provides walk-in lake-view sites set atop grassy knolls; secluded sites tucked in hillside clefts; and RV and trailer sites. The lake has three resorts to choose from, as well as Curlew Lake State Park.  The state park was listed fourth in Sunset Magazine article “Northwest: 27 best campgrounds.”

After you have settled into your campsite, walk the park’s tree-lined waterfront paths or swim in the spring-fed waters of the lake. For boating and fishing enthusiasts, Curlew Lake offers trout and bass fishing (night fishing as well), and water- and jet-skiing.

Curlew Lake is home to a wide variety of birds and animals, as well as stopover for a number of migratory birds and waterfowl. Throughout most of the summer months bald eagles, hawks, and falcons hunt from the skies overhead, while ducks and geese raise their young on the blue waters below. Because of the park’s proximity to a small island lake where a pair of osprey raises their young, park visitors often have the opportunity to watch osprey fishing in the waters adjacent to the park.

Nearby Activities

Other nearby activities include biking along scenic Highway 21 between Republic and Keller Washington, fossil viewing at the Stonerose Eocene and Interpretive museum, fossil hunting at the Boothill fossil site, trips to the Antique Car and Truck museum, and to the Ansorge Hotel Museum in the ghost town of Curlew. Additional fishing opportunities abound at the Ten Mile Campground and 13 Mile campground along Highway 21 on the San Poil river, and along the Kettle River. Enjoy fishing the serene, trout-stocked waters of Ferry Lake, Long Lake, Swan Lake, and tiny Fish Lake.

Park Amenities

Park amenities and facilities include access to clean restrooms and showers, a boat launch, and trailer cleanout station. Airplane tiedowns at Merritt Field (within walking distance of the park) are provided for visitors traveling by air to the lake. Boat rentals and fishing supplies are available at nearby lake resorts, and groceries and camping supplies in the town of Republic.

Pets welcome, but must be leashed at all times. Ten-day camping limit May 1 – September 30.
