Nearly everyone has at least one mystery-filled memory of a visit to their grandmother's dusty attic or a grandfather's tool-filled workshop. The Malo Trading Post will fill you with the same sense of wonder and expectation, as you explore its broad, reasonably-priced, and eclectic mix of collectibles, antiques, and (okay, let's be honest here) junk. Even hard-core, hate-to-shop types should prepare to be fascinated.
Located in Malo, Washington, just about half way between Curlew and Republic, Washington, the Malo Trading Post occupies a sprawling expanse of buildings and adjacent fields. Every nook and cranny of the main and out buildings are filled with everything from old boat motors, gas station pumps, and road signs, to brass firehose nozzles, carpenter's tools, antique jewelry, and miniature salt and pepper shakers.
Owners Steven and April Hines have traded for and collected items from as far away as Thailand and Japan and as close to home as Washington and Montana. The resulting mix of exotic and comfortingly familiar makes each pass through the Trading Post a new opportunity for discovery and purchasing. As for the latter, remember to bring your checkbook...first because something is bound to catch your eye, and second because it's a cash only establishment. If you forget, don't worry. There are cash machines in nearby Republic and Curlew.
